Introduction
This is a review of how well the free foot shoe from Saguaro could handle a real mountain climb. When myself, Linus, and Sanna got invited by our new friend Franjo to go on a mountain climb we didn’t think twice to accept, and we decided to take our sponsored shoes with us and put them to the ultimate test.
The Challenge: Climbing Puig Campana
The mountain we were going to climb is the 2nd largest in the area, Puig Campana (means “bell peak” in English), and it is 1406 meters (4613 ft) above sea level. Franjo said he was an experienced mountain hiker, something none of us were. We put all trust in him, lol.
To give you an idea: After walking for an hour, I see we’ve lost the trail, and when I ask him he says “well, I deliberately went off trail, it is supposed to be an adventure”. We laughed so hard because we were the silly ones who had not kept an eye ourselves.
Off-Trail Adventure
The “off trail” way was of course much more demanding on all areas. In some places the tilt was definitely 90 degrees.
We hiked and climbed on various surfaces, from big to small rocks, sand, gravel, etc, and the shoes have passed almost every single test with great results.
We put our Saguaro shoes on when we got to the bottom of the mountain, at around 7.00 in the morning, we climbed and hiked on the various surfaces until we reached back down, at around 16.00 (total of 9 hours approximately).
The Performance: Surviving the Tough Conditions
We definitely fell, we slid, we glided, we got stuck, and we got lost. But the shoes never failed. We finally found our way back to the trail and the rest of the path worked smoothly, and we had learnt our new friend is crazy (in a good way).
The grip of the shoe is amazing. The comfortableness is unheard of, and the sole is honestly superb for being so thin. Sure, we had some sore feet when we were done, but we get that from normal hiking shoes too.
The Fit and Comfort
Because of the easily bent material, the shoe just fitted perfectly wherever. Also, as they barely weigh anything they are great for walking long. Would we use Saguaro shoes on our next mountain walk? DEFINITELY, although we would put an extra sole in for that little extra comfort at the end of the hike. Don’t forget to tighten the shoe properly, we didn’t to start with and slid a few times, avoidable.
